Elgar 1st Symphony, 1st movement at measure 17: horns swell and string gliss: horns at high velocity giving "brassy" sound.
measure 19: pitch bend for string slides.
measure 22: ponticello effect in violin 2 and viola, using my favorite CC71 (nrp for harmonic content) which gives a quite good approximation.
measure 28: horns brassy (cuivré) achieved with velocity which changes the sound in this and some other patches.
Symphony 2, 3rd movement at 119 and 120: This is the loudest point in the 2nd Symphony and the trombones and tubas were reinforced by changing my normal volume of 100 to 127 in these tracks as well as by using controller 71 (harmonic content) to make these weak patches come out louder and "brassier".
Violin Concerto slow movement: "harmonics" which generally give that effect in the 7th (standard) octave. (here it occurs before the new section.) Pitchbend and other means can also approximate this effect.
